Our History

In the early 1900’s, the Idlewild Lodge Resort was a getaway for hunters, outdoorsman and family vacations. Nestled in Cumberland Wisconsin on Beaver Dam Lake, approximately 1 mile past the golf course, it was a popular destination for travelers from all over the country.

The resort closed in the 50’s and the cabins and lodge were sold to private buyers. My parents, Jim and Betty Jordan purchased the main lodge in 1973 as their summer home. After renovating the old lodge they decided to move our family from Minneapolis to Cumberland. My mother, Betty continues to spend summers at the lake with many weekends filled with family and friends.

In 2011, my husband Neil and I purchased and remodeled a brick commercial building on main street in Cumberland, Wisconsin and opened Idlewild Outfitters in May of 2012.

With the help of many family and friends we started this small business with the idea of providing a place for people to gather and shop quality products in a great setting.
Our hope and inspiration for Idlewild Outfitters is to create an excellent “small” shopping experience with products that inspire an active and balanced lifestyle. Idle = Relax and Wild = Active; put the two together and we think it makes for a great balance not to mention a great weekend.

The Cumberland local and weekend community has graciously welcomed us, for which we are extremely grateful, we cannot even count how many wonderful people we have met over the past few years.

Both Neil and I continue to work other jobs, thus life is very busy, however, we hope to spend more time in Cumberland in the future. We look forward to many more years of fun and conversation with you all.

Sincerely,

Pauli (Jordan) Kennelly
